THUNDER ON THE HILL TO CLOSE 2012 SEASON
By Troy Harrison
As we know, all good things must come to an end, and so it is with Thunder Hill Speedway’s 2012 season. This season featured the closest points battle in track history with the BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modified Track Championship decided by a single point and a single position on-track in the final night’s feature, as Jesse Richter eked out the title over a determined Jeff Herbers. Excellent action was seen in all classes, and the track even added a new way for entry level racers to take on the high banks– the IMCA Sport Compact Division.
This weekend, the annual “Thunder On the Hill”spectacular will close out the track’s third season under the management of the Conkwright family, which has included a return to full IMCA sanctioning. This year’s “Thunder On the Hill” program features a return to the “two full shows” format of past years, as both Friday and Saturday night will showcase full racing programs for all five weekly divisions.
The stars of the show will be the BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modifieds, the Heinen Repair Service IMCA Stock Cars, the Kansas National Guard IMCA Northern SportMods, the BuyRaceParts.com IMCA Hobby Stocks, and the IMCA Sport Compacts. 2012 Track Champions (respectively) Jesse Richter, Kyle Vanover, Eddie Schwope Jr., Jacob Crowell, and Kaylee Diekman are expected to be on hand to defend their home turf against top IMCA drivers from all over the Midwest.
Features each night will pay $2,000 to win (Modifieds), $750 to win (Northern SportMods), $600 to win (Stock Cars), $400 to win (Hobby Stocks), and $150 to win (Sport Compacts). Special THANKS going out to our Thunder On the Hill lap money sponsors. Xtreme Motor Sports, Bills Built Race Cars, Pro Motor Sports, Heinen Repair Service, Precise Racing Products (Hoosier Tire), Well Hung Bodies by K & K, and Sunoco Racing Fuel. Modifieds $350.00 per night, Stock Cars $262.50 per night, Sport Mods $312.50, Hobby Stocks $150.00 per night, and Sport Compacts $100.00 per night.
