Tom Charles Grabs First Feature Win of the Season With Return of NCRA

08-24 -13 MAYETTA, KS  - Saturday evenings events began with a tribute to a fallen friend and racer Tom Wunder. The show, which included the NCRA Late Models,  was truly the kind of racing Tom enjoyed. The Conkwright family continues to showcase  Thunder Hill Speedway as a premier Saturday night racing facility as once again the facility was in fantastic shape to provide some of the best racing action in the state.

The  Kansas National Guard IMCA Hobby Stocks were the first group up Saturday evening. Travis Burger, making the long haul from Red Cloud Nebraska, starts from the second row inside and quickly races his way to the front. Kelly Pihl starts fifth row inside and drives his way to the back bumper of Burger. On the last lap, Pihl attempts to make a pass, but drives in to deep in turns three and four. Travis Burger holds on for the win and makes his first visit to the Pit Pass Liquor Victory Lane with Kelly Pihl, Tyler Garst, Mallory Stiffler and Bill McConnaughy making up the top five.

The Belleville Motor Sports IMCA Northern Sportmod division continues to grow and provide their share of great racing action. Kyle Olberding starts this feature from the fourth row outside and  quickly set his sights on the lead. After  fending off several other hard chargers, the race finished under a checkered-caution flag. Kyle Olberding made it to the Pit Pass Liquors Victory Lane followed by Dusty Leonard, Brandon Mitchell, Bryan Rigsby and Curtis Dreasher.

The Heinen Repair Service IMCA Stock cars were up next, again providing door to door racing action. This race saw a couple of different leaders early on, but Mike Nichols continues to show his dominance as he picked up another win.  As this race comes to a close it’s Mike Nichols in The Pit Pass Liquor Victory Lane followed closely by Matt Haid, Eric Weyer, Greg Deters and Steve Withee in the top five.

The BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modifieds always put on a fantastic show for the fans at Thunder Hill Speedway and tonight would be no different. Mike Petersilie put on a valiant effort, after being put to the rear twice, passing more cars than any other driver on the track.  Tom Charles starts this race from the third row outside and by  the fourth lap was out in front. Toms lead was challenged by Kurt Johnston several times, but as the checkered flag flew on this one it would Be Tom Charles standing victoriously in The Pit Pass Liquor Victory Lane with  Kurt Johnston, Mike Petersilie, Justin Becker and Scott Brown.

The NCRA Late Models  made their trip to Thunder Hill Speedway Saturday evening. The race track was still in excellent shape, a true testament to the hard work the Conkwright family always puts in to Thunder Hill Speedway. In a twenty-five lap shootout, Tommy Weder Jr. makes his presence known at the front of the field. Chase Junghans tried several times to get to the lead spot, but just couldn’t  get there. At the drop of the checkered flag, Tommy Weder Jr. stood in the Pit Pass Liquor Victory Lane. Chase Junghans, David Turner, Jason Magee and Dustin Walker make up the top five.

Racing resumes next Saturday night at Thunder Hill Speedway with all  five IMCA classes returning and putting on the best Saturday night racing show in Northeast Kansas.   Please be sure and join us,  and bring a friend and a cooler!!!
